Austin-based trombonist Demetreis Thornton is one of Central Texas’s most promising new voices in jazz. A performer and low-brass specialist with roots at UT Austin’s Butler School of Music, Thornton brings a rich tone, sharp improvisational instincts, and a modern groove to the stage.
Having honed his craft under mentors like Paul Deemer and Andre Hayward, he’s quickly becoming a fixture in Austin’s jazz scene—appearing in ensembles from intimate quartets to full big bands. With his quartet, Thornton delivers a sound that’s both classic and contemporary, swinging with soul and sophistication every time he takes the stage.
