Juan Lara Trio

Originally from El Paso, Texas, Juan Fabricio Lara is part of a new generation of jazz musicians making its mark on the Central Texas scene. An alto and baritone saxophonist, composer, arranger, educator, and bandleader, Lara brings a deep respect for jazz tradition to a distinctly young Austin-area voice.
Inspired by Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, Pepper Adams, Charles Mingus, and Duke Ellington, Juan’s playing is rooted firmly in the language of classic jazz, from bebop and hard bop to the rich ensemble sounds of the big-band era. He began leading bands at just 15 and has since studied with acclaimed musicians Andrew Gould and Steven Feifke. Monks Livestream
Lara has shared the stage with respected players including Mike Sailors, Andre Hayward, Elias Haslinger, Kris Kimura, and Abel Mireles, while regularly collaborating with some of Central Texas’ emerging jazz talent, including Kevin Hrabak and Aidan Berg. Recent performances have found him leading his own quartet and sextet at Austin’s Monks Jazz Club, as well as appearing with Hrabak’s quintet and big band.
