Swing 512 is an Austin-based gypsy jazz (jazz manouche / hot club jazz) ensemble inspired by the fast-swinging, acoustic sound pioneered in 1930s Paris by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. The band features violinist Liz Mallett, guitarists Matt Montoya and Saul Hernandez, and upright bassist Derek Thigpen—classically trained musicians who bring fiery improvisation, tight ensemble work, and infectious swing to this distinctly European-rooted jazz style. Their sound blends traditional manouche rhythm guitar with modern influences ranging from Django to Adrien Moignard, Charlie Parker, and Miles Davis.
