Swing 512 ( SWING FIVE TWELVE )

March 22 @ 7:00 pm11:30 pm

Gypsy Jazz & Swing 512

Gypsy jazz, also known as jazz manouche, originated in 1930s Paris, pioneered by guitarist Django Reinhardt. This energetic style blends swing rhythms with intricate improvisation and remains popular today.

Swing 512 is an Austin-based gypsy jazz band inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Formed by violinist Liz Mallett, guitarists Matt Montoya and Saul Hernandez, and bassist Derek Thigpen, the group brings classical training to their vibrant jazz performances. Their influences range from Django to modern jazz legends like Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.

The band has played at venues such as ZACH Theatre, Justine’s Brasserie, and the Austin Convention Center, and is available for private events. Each member has a strong musical background, with formal training in classical and jazz, performing and teaching across Austin.
