Roberto Aponte is a South Austin-born saxophonist raised in San Marcos, Texas, whose playing blends deep jazz tradition with a fresh, contemporary edge. A graduate of Texas State University’s Jazz Studies program, Roberto developed his craft under Dr. Russell Haight and drew inspiration from artists such as Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Thad Jones, Kenny Dorham, Thelonious Monk, and Braxton Cook.
Known for his versatility, Roberto moves comfortably through jazz, Latin, funk, pop, and brass band settings, bringing a rich musical voice to stages across Central Texas. With the Roberto Aponte Quintet, he leads an expressive ensemble that features original compositions alongside inventive interpretations of jazz standards and modern works.
